PA Nurse Debt Relief Eyewitness News
WILKES-BARRE, ALZERNE COUNTY (WBRE / WYOU) – The burden of student loans is common to many graduates here in the Commonwealth, but a new program aims to ease some of this expense for nurses.
The COVID-19 Nursing Workforce Initiative was unveiled in September 2021 with the goal of providing greater support to nurses in Pennsylvania amid the immense challenges of the pandemic.
As part of this initiative, the Student Loan Relief for Nurses program was created to help Commonwealth nurses struggling on the front lines. The state is using $ 5 million of its COVID relief funds to provide student loan relief.
“I go to schools and I see the students now saying I want to be a nurse, I want to go into this field. And that kind of surprises me after everything the medical community has been through, ”said Robin Walker, Higher Education Access Partner, North East Region.
Nurses can be selected to receive up to $ 2,500 for each year of work beginning in 2020. Funds will last no longer than 3 years, with a maximum of $ 7,500.
Qualified nurses must work in Pennsylvania. If this option is selected, payment will go directly to your loan officers.
Applications are now open and can be viewed online at PA Student Loan Relief for Nurses Program.
