Juventus “express keen interest” in Mauro Icardi loan
Juventus have met Mauro Icardi’s agent and expressed interest in the striker’s loan in January.
The Argentina international’s career has declined since his intoxicating days at Inter. He scored 19 goals in Ligue 1 in his first two seasons with Paris Saint-Germain, but with Lionel Messi joining the team this summer alongside other attacking stalwarts like Kylian Mbappe, Neymar and Angel Di Maria, the 28-year-old struggled to clinch a starting XI spot.
However, a return to Serie A could soon be considered.
Mercato on foot reported that Wanda Nara, Icardi’s wife and agent, has met with Juventus President Andrea Agnelli to discuss a PSG loan to Juventus, who have their own goalscoring issues at the moment.
Following Cristiano Ronaldo’s summer departure to Manchester United, La Vecchia Signora’s skill in front of goal has plummeted, registering just 23 goals in 17 Serie A games this season.
Paulo Dybala and Alvaro Morata are their current top scorers in the league with five and four goals respectively, while Moise Kean and Federico Chiesa were unable to contribute as much as expected.
Juve have expressed “strong interest” in a loan deal for Icardi, although it is also said that Nara is alerting other Italian teams to his apparent availability.
PSG appear to be bracing for a possible start in attack as they consider a transfer for Anthony Martial from Manchester United.
While Icardi brought tons of drama to San Siro, his value in front of goal has never been in doubt. The 28-year-old has scored 124 goals in 219 appearances for the Nerazzurri, twice winning the Capocannoniere in darker days for the club.
His last turbulent years also cost him more opportunities with the Argentina team. He has only made eight appearances internationally, with the last of those returning in 2018.
