ITR AY 2022-23 live filing: no extension of the last date, find out about late tax filing now

The ITR filing deadline for FY 2021-22 (AY 2022-23) was July 31. Taxpayers who have not filed their returns by the due date should pay a penalty starting today. There is a fine of up to Rs 5000 on late filing of ITR, which can be done till December 31, 2022.
July 31, 2022 was the last date to file ITR of AY 2022-23 for Salaried Employees and Hindu Undivided Families (HUF) whose accounts do not need to be audited. Taxpayers who did not file ITRs by July 31 can now file late tax returns until December 31, 2022. However, they will have to pay a late filing penalty.
According to the Income Tax Department, over 5 crore ITR have been deposited till July 30. The total number of RTIs filed was expected to increase further by the due date, which is yesterday. The government has denied any extension of the ITR filing deadline. With so many ITRs already filed, he was sure the government would not extend the due dates.
