Irish prospect Conor Coventry joins MK Dons on loan

Conor Coventry has joined forces with Troy Parrott at MK Dons after sealing a loan deal until the end of the season.

The Irish Under-21 ace is leaving West Ham, having spent the first half of the campaign on loan at Peterborough United where he made 12 appearances.

Coventry, who have three League Cup appearances for the Hammers to their name since 2018, could make their debut in Saturday’s clash with Doncaster.

MK Dons currently hold a place in the League One playoffs, sitting fifth in the table and six points behind leaders Wycombe Wanderers.

Last March, Coventry were a late caller to Ireland’s senior squad for the opening World Cup qualifiers against Serbia and Luxembourg, and the away friendly with Qatar.

Coventry, 21, said today: “I am delighted to be here. It is a club that is moving in the right direction and I hope that I can contribute to having a positive impact in this direction.

“I know how the team plays and that’s something that suits me. I am a player who will always give everything and try to keep the ball, dictate the game and help keep the ball.

MK Dons manager Liam Manning worked with Coventry at West Ham when he was the club’s Under-23 boss until 2019.

And Coventry said: “He’s someone I trust and has really helped my development so I’m looking forward to working with him again.

“I hope I can repay his and the club’s faith in me with my performances.”

MK Dons boss Manning said: “Conor is first and foremost a fantastic character, as well as a hardworking and talented young player who is comfortable on the ball.

“It’s suited to what we’re trying to do here. He will definitely strengthen our team and add to the quality we have.

Coventry will join striker Parrott, having played with him at minor level for Ireland.

Now a senior international, Parrott is on a season-long loan to Tottenham’s MK Dons and has scored four goals in 29 appearances in all competitions.
